This is one of life and love’s greatest mysteries. How do you know when you’ve found “the one” with whom you want to celebrate your wedding? This is a hard question to answer, but here are some tips.
It’s so easy to get caught up in your own feelings and emotions during this time that you lose sight of the fact that the one for you must also be someone who feels as strongly for you as you do for them, so we’ll start by highlighting the ways you can identify their feelings.
There are many signs in their face that can give away how they’re feeling. There are many signs to look for when your beloved looks at you. They should blink rapidly, their lips and cheeks should flush, and their pupils should widen, as if they are wanting to take in more of your light. You should also see a smile that is not just in their lips and teeth, but in their eyes as well.
When they talk, you should be able to tell how they feel about you. Their words of love should be spontaneous, maybe even awkward, but earnest and powerful. They should neither be rehearsed nor delayed, they should just come right out. And, most importantly, you should be able to tell that they are listening to you as well.
Words are one thing, but deeds are another. Your beloved’s actions should give clear evidence that they are putting you first, sacrificing other things for you. And this is where they show that they’re listening, not just by replying to what you say, but by acting on it, remembering small details like how you like your drink, or whether you like bacon or breakfast sausage.
This is your intuition. You should have a great sense in your heart that this is love and it is enduring. It should be a very strong, overwhelming sensation of positive feelings that well up every time you see or think of your beloved. You won’t have any hesitations or lingering doubts.
This is your rational self. When it thinks about the other person, it can’t help but come to the conclusion that the two of you are right for each other. You have things in common. You enjoy doing things together. You are friends as well as lovers. You can plot out a course from here to eternity and not once doubt that this is the right person for you.
Wait, you may be thinking, this is The One. We shouldn’t fight. Wrong. Fighting is often as much a part of love as sex, but it’s different when it’s The One. When you’re fighting with this person, there is no genuine malice, no actual attempt to hurt you. They don’t want to see you cry. If they do hurt you, it is accidental and typically minor.
The thing about love is that it never gets old because it is reborn every day. With The One, you won’t fall in love and then that love gets old, you just keep falling in love, over and over again, which is what makes this kind of love enduring and forever young. If you’re not falling in love again—maybe not every day, but regularly—perhaps this isn’t right.
And, of course, every love is different. You may not need anyone’s advice to know. You’ll just know.
