5 Most Extreme Weddings

The most important thing about your wedding is that it is your wedding, that it expresses who you are and what matters to you. Sometimes, what matters to you is a little out of the ordinary, and perhaps a little extreme. If you are getting a little worried that the idea for your wedding is a little too much, consider these couples who have gone extreme for their happily ever after.

#5 Underwater Wedding

Underwater weddings have been kind of a “thing” since at least the 1970s, and even earlier if you count weddings in the pool, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that getting married in scuba gear puts serious demands on the wedding party, witnesses, and pastor.

#4 Nude Wedding

There are many extreme weddings where the couple asks their friends to dress up as pirates, soldiers, and even Star Wars or Star Trek characters. But what about when you ask your friends and family to do the ultimate dress down? Wearing your birthday suit to your wedding takes a lot of gumption and understanding, but if nudism is important to you, this is a great way to cement it in your lives.

#3 Zero G Wedding

There will be a day when people are able to get married outside the confines of Earth’s gravity, but for now, the closest we can get is to take a ride on airplanes that can climb to high altitude, then fall intermittently to produce periods of weightlessness, about 20-30 seconds each, spaced out by periods of 1.8 Gs. The contrast and change between accelerations is hard on many people, which is why these flights have been nicknamed “the vomit comet.” Hopefully, everyone has done this before and you avoid sickness at your wedding.

#2 Wingwalker Wedding

And speaking of airplanes—why not have a wedding outside the airplane altogether? Skydiving weddings have been done a lot, and they are perhaps more extreme, but I like the style of the wingwalker wedding. In this ceremony, the bride, the groom, and the officiant are standing on the wings of three separate biplanes flying in tight formation. They use megaphones to shout out the words of the ceremony.

When done in true barnstormer style, the groom (or bride) unhooks and walks over to their spouse for the kiss.

#1 Suspended Wedding

Want to leave the ground, but think airplanes are not your style? How’s about having your wedding suspended? (Though not like a suspended sentence!) This has been done circus style, with the bride and groom on the trapeze (hopefully working with a net!), or bungee style, with the couple having their kiss as they bungee from a romantic spot. But the most extreme version has been practiced by people who love their piercing, and are actually suspended by their piercings!
