Hors d’oeuvres or Dinner?

- Costs. Generally speaking, sit-down dinners are more expensive than buffet dinners and they are more expensive than hors d’oeuvres, too. However, hors d’oeuvres can require more labor resulting in equal or higher prices than a buffet. If you run on a tighter budget, make sure you take into consideration the costs of the options you have depending on what you are serving.
- Level of formality. Not very long ago, weddings were considered to be fully formal, “black tie” events. However, these days it is entirely up to the married couple whether or not their wedding is very formal or rather casual. If you plan on having a more informal reception, hors d’oeuvres would be a much better choice for you. Even hors d’oeuvres can be transformed into a true celebration of taste!
- Guests. Think of what your guests would enjoy most. Does your wedding party consist of people who would appreciate an actual dinner? Or rather, would they prefer to grab a bite or two and then “jump” on the dance floor?
- You can have both! If you can’t decide, you can always have passed hors d’oeuvres served prior to or as the entrée of a larger dinner. This way, everybody will be satisfied!
