Your wedding day should be one of the greatest days of your life. Unfortunately, it might also be one of the most stressful. Some stress may be inevitable, but there are several things you can do to keep it to a minimum.
Possibly the best thing you can do to reduce stress on your wedding day is to plan ahead. Make a schedule for getting everything done and stick to it. For last-minute details, delegate responsibility instead of trying to handle everything yourself. Your job should be to get yourself ready. Ask friends and family to stay on top of the other things that need to be done and give them someone other than yourself to contact with questions. Better yet, hire a wedding planner.
Marriage is a major commitment, and the stress of planning a wedding can give any couple cold feet. Ward off the cold by making sure to spend time together as a couple in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Plan a date where you agree not to talk about wedding planning! It’s fine to look forward to the wedding with anticipation, but don’t get mired down in details. Just enjoy being together. Confidence in your relationship is the surest way to make your wedding day shine!
Especially if the wedding is scheduled for the evening, plan to do something enjoyable (and distracting) earlier in the day. Get a massage. Go to lunch with your friends. Have a spa day with your bridesmaids and get your hair done. Whatever will help you relax and stop focusing on the details of the wedding. Just don’t go bowling unless you don’t care about breaking a nail!
No matter what you do or how well you plan, something is bound to go wrong. It may rain and ruin your plans for an outside ceremony (but you have a backup plan, right?). Or the flowers may not be what you ordered. Maybe your elderly uncle will get drunk at the reception and embarrass you.
If you’re lucky enough to have absolutely everything go according to plan, great. But if you aren’t (and you probably won’t be), remember that it’s the details like the aisle runner blowing away or your bridesmaid passing out because she locked her knees that help make your wedding special. Unless there is some sort of major catastrophe (involving serious peril or injury), just shrug it off. These are the details you’ll look back on and smile.
No matter what happens, if you focus on the positive (you’re getting married!) it’s going to be a great day!
If you make the right choices early in the planning process, wedding-day setup can be seamless. Trust your wedding coordinator or the staff at your wedding venue to know what needs to be done and handle any problems. Remember, they’re professionals!
