One thing you might want to do to save guests some money both in accommodation and transportation is putting people up in your home. The most important criterion here is whether you can stand to have them in your home. If it’s going to be too crowded or stressful, it’s not a good idea. But if you have space for relatives who might not be able to afford to attend otherwise, it might be worth it to get them to come out.

Can You Get a Block Discount?

It’s worth asking around at local hotels to find out if you can get a discount for arranging a block of rooms. You may not need that many to get a discount, and having everyone in a central location can be a lot of fun. It becomes a good spot for impromptu afterparties following the rehearsal dinner or wedding, which can be a godsend, because otherwise they might come back to your place!

A single central location also makes it easier for coordinating rides to and from the wedding venue. It means guests will be able to cope with fewer rental cars, which can be a big savings and will offset the cost of the hotel room.

Making Recommendations

If you don’t like the thought of trying to arrange reservations for people or herd them all into one hotel, you might just make a list of hotels in the area that are good for guests. Ideally, these hotels should:

• All be tolerable

• All be convenient

• Have a range of prices and options

If you can’t vouch for a place personally, don’t recommend it, because you’re likely to hear about it afterward.
